Google is Shutting Down Google+
Google’s social network, Google+, has officially been shut down as of April 2, 2019. All Google+ users’ profiles and pages were automatically deleted, as well as photos and videos stored in users’ Google+ Album Archive.
Other services linked to users’ Google accounts, such us Gmail, YouTube and Maps will continue to work as normal.
According to Google, ‘‘The process of deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts, Google+ Pages, and Album Archive will take a few months, and content may remain through this time. For example, users may still see parts of their Google+ account via activity log and some consumer Google+ content may remain visible to G Suite users until consumer Google+ is deleted.’’
Google’s official explanation is that this decision has been made due to low usage and challenges involved in maintaining a successful product that meets consumers’ expectations.
