Cayman Enterprise City Awarded 2018 Winner Of Americas Free Zone
Cayman Enterprise City (CEC) has been announced 2018’s top free zone in the Americas for small and medium sized investors alike. When conducting the annual search for the world’s best free zone, the jury from fDi magazine distributed CEC into two different categories: The first being acclamation for ‘Workforce Training & Development’ and the second being ‘SME Winner: Americas.’ CEO Charlie Kirkconnell stated the following: “This year saw some incredibly strong entries in each of the categories of the fDi’s Global Free Zone Awards. We are honored that the CEC project has been identified as the top SME free zone in the Americas and has been recognized for our efforts to support the next generation to pursue innovative technology jobs of the future – jobs that are increasingly becoming available within Cayman’s special economic zones.” There was a total of 79 entries received during deliberation and the judging panel selected winners based on certain criteria that included percentage increase in tenants, strong growth, facilities, and implementation of new incentives giving the free zones a competitive edge.
CEC allows international companies to quickly and meticulously establish Cayman Island offices thanks to a dedicated Government Authority, licensing fee concessions, and fast-track processes. Currently, the CEC Development Project has generated an estimated US $155.15 million to Cayman’s economy. Last year, CEC contributed an estimated US $41.56 million. 2017’s figure indicated a 9.4% increase over 2016’s $37.6 million. Since CEC’s beginning, they have been working alongside Cayman Islands Government through the Enterprise Cayman initiative which passionately supports young Caymanians who wish to re-tool for a career change, gain the skills needed for jobs to fill that are being created within Cayman’s three special economic zones that include: Cayman Tech City, Cayman Commodities & Derivatives City, and Cayman Maritime & Aviation City. For the past 6 years CEC has also welcomed students as well as recent graduates to participate in the ‘Summer In The City’ internship program that supports connections between students and industry professionals and concludes in an annual networking event. This previous summer CEC also aided in the expansion of the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) STEM Summer Camp which offered a week long immersive SETM activities for aspiring scientist, inventors, mathematicians, entrepreneurs, engineers, and leaders. It’s no surprised why CEC was awarded such a high honor, astounding growth, amazing leadership acclamation, and benefiting those when needed, they never rest to make sure CEC is the absolute best it can be. We at EightPoint are so excited and proud of CEC and wish to continue to see growth, change and innovation come to life before our eyes.
